Education Corner

Sony World Photography Awards - is a world leading competition showcasing unique captured moments from across the globe. In 2016, the competition received over 1 million entries from amateurs and professionals alike. There are four competitions, each with different categories that users are able to enter, catering to different ranges of photographers, including student and youth photographers. Provided is a link to images that were shortlisted for Sony World Photography and depicts the lives of children around the world. Some images are heartwarming whilst the others are heartwrenching - nevertheless, do check out the stunning images!

Worldometers - provides real-time statistics on the world's population including births, deaths and overall population growth today and past years. The site offers extensive information on past, present and future population growth in specific countries. According to the site, we are expected to hit 10 billion in world population by the year 2056. It is estimated that a total of approximately 106 billion people have been born since the dawn of human species. Check out the full site for all the statistics!

Supersize me - is a 2004 documentary on the fast food industry and the corporate's influence on people's physical and psychological wellbeing. Director Morgan Spurlock who features in the documentary goes on a social experiment, consuming McDonalds' three times a day during a 30 day period. The documentary depicts Spurlock's changing behaviours and physical wellbeing, gaining 11.1 kgs, increased cholestrol levels and a mirade of behavioural effects. Though many criticised the documentary for Spurlock's bias experiement, having done no exercise during the 30 day period therefore changing the results of the experiement drastically.
