A German university is keeping an eye on Habbo due to the presence of paedophile grown-ups that make themselves look as if they were young students like the users in order to get their trust and get photos of them. According to Thomas Gabriel Rüdiger, criminologist; «The number of cases of paedophile on Habbo is increasing extremely, and it will continue to appear new cases unless Habbo starts a series of important changes». He worked at Fachhochshule der Polizei in the region of Brandebourg as well as a minister for the goverment there.

The university place Habbo on the top of most dangerous sites for children to join. The preoccupation comes after Channel 5, a British tv channel, had opened the debate about the safety of young people who play on Habbo, showing in a special program for the game different cases of real adolescents who had been being bullied or asked for photos of themselves.

In recent years, and particularly right after Channel 5's accusation, CEO Paul LaFontaine, started the installation of new changes with the aim of making easier for users to report illegal activities inside Habbo. Nevertheless, these changes seem not to calm down those accusations from experts around the world that make the trust of Sulake go down in the business field.

The criminologist doesn't stop here and suggests that the registration on Habbo was only allowed above the age of 18. It is not a stupid a idea, since some days ago the European Union approved the voting of a new law to ensure that children under the age of 18 years old (age which indicates legal age in most part of European countries) would not be allowed to join social networks. Habbo is considered as a social network so if this law is approved, the hotel could be affected and would be forced to change this minimum age.
