Appreciating Music and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
Posted on 26 July 2017
"Music is what feelings sound like."
As most of you hopefully know, I absolutely love music, it is my passion, and it speaks everything that I cannot even say myself.
I just wanted to share this Hawaiian singer, and I don't know if he's well-known to you guys, but one of his songs is very popular and, I think, loved the most. It is definitely my favorite.
His voice and personality are absolutely beautiful. He was a gentle giant with many struggles of his own, but he always put a smile on everyone's face and sang from his heart with his little ukulele.
The song is called 'Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World' by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, and I feel that perfectly describes the happy side of my life, and who I am as a person. The music video gives me a mixture of happiness and sadness. He may be gone, but he has left such a big impact on his fans and myself. He even inspired me to learn the ukulele, and this song was the first one I had decided to learn.
"This man wasn't just playing a song, he was singing. Really singing. Hawaiin acts had regularly recorded hape haoles, english songs in a hawaiin style, but this wasn't some tourist pleasing ditty. To borrow one of the most irksome X-Factor quotes ever, he made it his own. The way he sang the words, the inspired relaxation underpinning the recording, the dual delivery of hope and desperation chiming with the confused identity of his own island."
Those who are extremely close to music and are probably musicians themselves will definitely relate to this blog post regarding 'music', and how it greatly influences them and gets them through the good and bad times. I cannot imagine a life without it.
